Brazilian oil and gas company 3R Petroleum has selected Wärtsilä to operate the power modules aboard its floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel.

The FPSO operates off coast Brazil in the Papa Terra oilfield in Brazil’s deepwater.

Wärtsilä, a Finnish technology company, has also inked a five-year optimised maintenance agreement for the vessel.

Brazilian state-owned oil and gas company Petrobras, with which Wärtsilä formerly held a contract, sold the oilfield to 3R Petroleum.

The Papa-Terra field, which is a component of the BC-20 concession, is situated 1,200m beneath the surface of the ocean.

There are three power modules on the FPSO vessel, and each one features two Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines.

Wärtsilä will keep staff on board to operate the modules around-the-clock under the terms of the new contract.

It will use the cyber secure connectivity solution to allow remote engine performance monitoring as part of the Optimised Maintenance Agreement.

3R Petroleum Facilities Manager Humberto Romanus said: “We are pleased to have Wärtsilä as a skilled and experienced partner in operating and maintaining this FPSO. We feel that they are clearly the most qualified company for this project, and we look forward to working with them.”

Wärtsilä Lifecycle Sales Manager Carlos Mikus said: “We have been involved with this vessel since the beginning when it was owned by the Petrobras group. We are very happy to continue this cooperation with the new owners.”
