Aker Solutions and Drydocks World have secured a contract to upgrade the Petrojarl Knarr floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel for deployment at the Rosebank field offshore the UK.
Worth approximately $400m, the contract has been awarded by Altera Infrastructure.
Under the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract, a joint venture (JV) of Aker Solutions, Drydocks World, will be responsible for the new build, demolition, and life extension of the FPSO vessel, which will operate for 25 years at the Rosebank field without drydocking.
The JV plans to start the EPC work during the first half of this year and complete work by the end of 2025.
Aker Solutions, in partnership with Citec Norway, ABB Norway, and OneSubsea Processing, will carry out the detail design for the project in Norway.
The upgrade work on the FPSO unit is planned to be carried out at a yard in Dubai, UAE.
Built by Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea and delivered in 2014, the Petrojarl Knarr facility was operating on the Knarr field until May 2022.
Located approximately 130km off the coast of the Shetland Islands in the UK, the Rosebank field is estimated to have 300 million barrels of potentially recoverable reserves.
