Aker Solutions has received a ‘sizeable contract’ from Heerema Marine Contractors to recycle installations from the Heimdal and Veslefrikk fields offshore Norway.
Under the contract, which follows a letter of intent from March 2021, Aker Solutions will be responsible for reception, dismantling, and recycling of three offshore installations from the Equinor-operated Heimdal and Veslefrikk fields.
Aker terms a contract ‘sizeable’ when contract value ranges between $22.5m (NOK200m) and $78.9m (NOK700m).
Heerema Marine Contractors was selected earlier this year by Equinor for removal, dismantling, and recycling of three offshore installations from the fields.
The scope of work for Heerema includes the engineering, preparation, removal, and disposal (EPRD) of both the main platform and riser platform from the Heimdal field as well as the wellhead platform Veslefrikk A, including a subsea pre-drill template.
At that time, Heerema said that the Heimdal riser platform is planned to be removed in 2024, at the earliest. The Heimdal main platform and the Veslefrikk A platform are planned to be removed no earlier than in 2025.
Located in the Northern part of the North Sea, the Heimdal gas and condensate field has been in operation since 1985. The Veslefrikk oil field has been in operation since 1989.
Heerema Marine Contractors will remove the Heimdal and Veslefrikk platforms, which will then be transported to Aker Solutions’ decommissioning facilities at Eldøyane in Stord, Norway.
Following dismantling at the decommissioning yard, about 98% of the material is planned to be recycled primarily into steel.
Last year, Heerema said it removed 85,277 metric tonnes of infrastructure in the North Sea and in Canada.
