A consortium of Técnicas Reunidas, FCC and Entrade has secured a contract to design and develop an emission-free liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal in Germany.

The contract has been awarded by German company Hanseatic Energy Hub, which is developing an import terminal to help secure the country’s supply of LNG and green gases.

Under the contract, the consortium will be responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of a new storage and regasification terminal for liquified gases in the river port of Stade, Hamburg.

Scheduled for commissioning in 2027, the planned terminal will be built with an investment of €1bn ($1.09bn) and will have a capacity of 13.3 billion cubic metres of gas a year.

The terminal will include infrastructure to manage other green gasses such as hydrogen.

Técnicas Reunidas will be responsible for designing the regasification terminal and the two 240,000m³ storage tanks.

It will also carry out the equipment and materials supply work for the project.

FCC will construct the tanks and undertake all site preparation and civil works activities for the LNG plant. Entrade will undertake the electromechanical assembly activities.

In a statement, Técnicas said: “This terminal is an important element of Germany’s current energy policy, as one of its main objectives is to diversify its natural gas supply with LNG and green gases while preparing for the market ramp-up of hydrogen.”

The LNG regasification project is scheduled to be developed in two phases with the first phase involving works and engineering for a period of five months.

The second phase involves the main contract, which is subject to the final investment decision by HEH scheduled for mid-2023.
