ADNOC Logistics & Services (ADNOC L&S) has forged a strategic partnership with French company SeaOwl to design unmanned, remotely operated marine supply vessels.

SeaOwl will design the vessel, supervise its construction and facilitate navigation permits.

The vessel will be lighter and smaller because crew facilities are not needed.

The 55m-long remotely operated vessels (ROVs) will be designed to emit up to 30% less carbon dioxide, ADNOC L&S claims.

The vessel can be operated from an onshore control room via a satellite link leveraging automation and self-navigation technology.

Modern artificial intelligence technologies will be used in the design to manage propulsion, dynamic location, remote communication and cybersecurity.

For this project, the French company will partner with Bureau Veritas to secure the required navigation permits.

It will feature smart automation systems that will augment routing and propulsion, thereby further decarbonising ADNOC L&S’ offshore operations.

SeaOwl CEO Xavier Génin said: “After the success of our proof of concept supported by the French Government, we are delighted to join forces with ADNOC L&S to bring a new era of sustainable logistics operations through digital automisation.”

The partnership is part of ADNOC’s 2030 Sustainability Agenda.

The ROV will be capable of transporting vehicles, equipment and supplies to and from offshore sites.
