China is expected to register the highest polypropylene capacity additions in Asia, contributing 52% of the region’s capacity additions by 2027. China is expected to add a capacity of 22.35 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) from 51 new build planned and announced projects.

In China, the main capacity addition will be from an announced project, North Huajin Refining and Petrochemical Liaoning Polypropylene Plant, with a capacity of 1mtpa. It is expected to commence production of polypropylene in 2027.            

Kaijin Blue Sky Energy (Zhejiang) Wenzhou Polypropylene Plant 3, a planned project follows next with a capacity of 0.90mtpa. The plant is expected to commence operations by 2023.

Another announced project is Jinzhou Petrochemical Company’s Jinzhou Polypropylene Plant 3, which is also the second highest contributor in China with a capacity of 0.90mtpa. The plant is expected to commence polypropylene production by 2027.

Ningbo Kingfa New Materials Ningbo Polypropylene 1, Fujian Eversun New Material Putian Polypropylene plant, and Hebei Xinhua United Petrochemical Tangshan Polypropylene plant are the next major contributors in China, each with a capacity of 0.80mtpa. They are expected to come online in 2023, 2024 and 2025, respectively.
