Global Ammonia capacity is poised to see considerable growth over the next five years, potentially increasing from 239.41mtpa in 2022 to 293.52mtpa in 2027, registering total growth of 23%. Around 95 planned and announced plants are slated to come online, primarily in North America and the Middle East.

Within North America, the US has 15 planned and announced ammonia capacity additions, with a total capacity of about 14.96mtpa by 2027. The country is expected to spend a capital expenditure (capex) of $21.98bn. Major capacity additions will be from an announced project called Ascension Clean Energy Donaldsonville Ammonia Plant, which is expected to come online by 2027 with a capacity of 7.2mtpa.

In the Middle East, the majority of the capacity additions are from Iran, with capacity additions of about 4.96mtpa. The country is expected to spend a total of $2.46bn by 2027. The major capacity addition is from a planned project, Hengam Petrochemical Company Assaluyeh Ammonia Plant, which is expected to come online by 2023 with a capacity of 0.73mtpa.

Clean Hydrogen Works, BW Group Ltd and Denbury Carbon Solutions LLC will be the top three companies globally in terms of planned and announced capacity additions over the upcoming years.
