Carbon America and Svante Technologies have formed an alliance to commercially deploy carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) projects in the US.
Under the partnership, the companies aim to find and implement projects to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
The alliance will leverage Svante’s solid sorbent carbon capture technology and Carbon America’s experience in developing CCUS projects.
Carbon America CEO Brent Lewis said: “Carbon capture is a critical component to the energy transition and Carbon America believes that collaboration is needed amongst players in this space to create meaningful change quickly.
“By combining Carbon America’s project development expertise with Svante’s ready-to-deploy technology, we can more rapidly drive down greenhouse gas emissions across the industrial sector.”
Svante co-founder and VP strategic accounts and government affairs, Brett Henkel said: “We are enabling industries around the world to decarbonise their operations with second-generation carbon capture and removal technology that is both environmentally responsible and efficient.
“Collaboration is the key to success in this market, and working with companies like Carbon America will enable us to accelerate the deployment of our technology with enhanced ability to finance, build and operate carbon capture projects at scale in an efficient, cost-effective way.”
In December 2022, Svante raised $318m in a Series E funding round led by Chevron, a US-based oil and gas major.
Other backers of Canada-based Svante include Temasek, OGCI Climate Investments and 3M Ventures.
Last month, Pilot Energy, an Australian oil and gas company, signed a deal with Svante on a carbon capture solution for industrial businesses.
