Successful Farming's Editorial Guidelines Updated on December 13, 2023 Close Sales for 4WD tractors continued to grow in November, while all other market segments continued a downward trend, according to sales numbers from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). “November is historically a slow month for tractor and combine sales,” says Curt Blades, senior vice president, industry sectors and product leadership AEM. “We are happy to see the year-to-date sale’s strength in the larger equipment market and remain optimistic for the long-term.” Tractor sales Total farm tractor sales for November 2023 were 12,958, down 4.7% from last year with 13,603 sold in 2022. Year to date, AEM reports 231,144 total farm tractors were sold as of November this year, down 8.4% from 252,422 this time last year. Tractor sales are broken down by horsepower range as follows: Sales for 2WD sub-40 hp tractors in November 2023 were down 4.2% from 2022, with 7,832 sales this year, and 8,172 last year. Year to date, AEM reports 146,143 tractors have been sold in this category, down 11% from 164,143 at the same time last year. Sales for 2WD 40-100 hp tractors in November were down 10.6%, with 3,581 sales this year, and 4,004 last year. Year to date, AEM reports 56,041 tractors have been sold in this category, down 9.2% from 61,703 at the same time last year. Sales for 2WD 100+ hp tractors in November were down .1%, with 1,262 sales this year, compared to 1,263 last year. Year to date, AEM reports 24,888 tractors have been sold in this category, up 5.3% from 23,629 at the same time last year. Sales for 4WD tractors were up 72.6% in November, with 283 sales this year, and 164 last year. Year to date, AEM reports 4,072 tractors have been sold in this category, up 38.2% from 2,947 at the same time last year. Combine Sales Sales for self-propelled combines were down 11.3% in November with 275 sales this year compared to 310 last year.
