Successful Farming's Editorial Guidelines Published on August 14, 2023 Close Self-propelled combines saw continued growth in July, while tractor sales declined for the month, according to the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). “We’re still seeing moderate growth in the traditional ag market that has shown a steady rise all year in North America” says Curt Blades, senior vice president, at AEM. “The softness in the compact and sub-compact tractor market in both the U.S. and Canada is something we have been experiencing for some time after record growth in the segment during the recent pandemic.” Association of Equipment Manufacturers Tractor sales Total farm tractor sales for July 2023 were 21,200, down 5.3% from last year with 22,383 sold in 2022. Year to date, AEM reports 149,211 total farm tractors were sold as of July this year, down 9.6% from 164,982 this time last year. Tractor sales are broken down by horsepower range as follows: Sales for 2WD sub-40 hp tractors in July 2023 were down 6% from 2022, with 13,212 sales this year, and 14,048 last year. Year to date, AEM reports 99,588 tractors have been sold in this category, down 12.2% from 113,380 at the same time last year. Sales for 2WD 40-100 hp tractors in July were down 6.1%, with 5,501 sales this year, and 5,856 last year. Year to date, AEM reports 34,813 tractors have been sold in this category, down 8% from 37,855 at the same time last year. Sales for 2WD 100+ hp tractors in July were up 0.3%, with 2,487 sales this year, compared to 2,479 last year. Year to date, AEM reports 14,810 tractors have been sold in this category, up 7.7% from 13,747 at the same time last year. Sales for 4WD tractors were up 1.2% in July, with 350 sales this year, and 346 last year. Year to date, AEM reports 2,224 tractors have been sold in this category, up 36.2% from 1,633 at the same time last year. Combine Sales Sales for self-propelled combines were up again in July, up 10.6% with 791 sales this year compared to 715 last year.
