Successful Farming's Editorial Guidelines Updated on October 6, 2023 Close Photo: Claas Claas has announced the Disco 9700 RC Auto Swather, a new high-capacity mower featuring a working width of 28 feet and 10 inches, up to 31 feet and 2 inches. "This mower with a conditioner and merger is rugged enough to handle high tonnages of cereal crops like rye or triticale and gentle on legumes such as alfalfa,” says Mark Scuffham, product manager for CLAAS of America. “The Disco 9700 RC Auto Swather sets new standards when it comes to performance.” High capacity The new Disco 9700 is intended for use with tractors running at 500 hp and up, for harvesting high forage volumes and heavy crops, at up to 25 tons per acre that require gentle handling, such as alfalfa, rye, or triticale. The mower’s transmission and drivetrains feature telescopic drive shafts developed jointly with Walterscheid. New bolt-on friction clutches have been included to ease maintenance. It runs at 850 rpm PTO for reduced fuel consumption. Active Float suspension with optional slope control for hilly terrain, and continues pressure monitoring helps maintain proper ground pressure, even at high working speeds. Cutting edge The 9700 also features a linear crop flow design, with roller conditioners driven by a double roller drive with scissor gear boxes. This comes together to keep up maximum throughput and durability, even in heavy conditions. Spring tension on the rolls and conditioner gap are all adjustable with an included ratcheting wrench. The conditioner spans almost the entire width of the cutterbar. Crop transfer to the 43.3 inch-wide merger belts has been optimized for uniform filling of the Auto Swather merger belts. One or both belt units can be hydraulically folded up to help with faster dry down — all without leaving the cab. The base and cover on the Max Cut Cutterbar are stamped from a single piece of steel, with no welded joints. The knives are able to be quickly removed, and are color-coded for easy maintenance. Shear safety modules protect the cutterbar in case of impact. Hydraulic non-stop collision protection swings the rear mowers back and over in case of an obstacle to eliminate or reduce costly damage from collisions For more information, visit ClaasOfAmerica.com.
