The market for late-model used planters has undergone a major retraction in the past two years with the bulge of available units dropping to a third of their supply. This reduction is being caused by the fact that dealers have been successful in ridding themselves of late-model used inventory, while, at the same time, the sale of brand-new planters (particularly in the 2015 to 2018 period) has been slow. This has created a market situation where late-model implements are in shorter supply, which is driving up their values.
A good comparison of what is happening to planter values can be found in a 2013 model 16/30 Deere 1770 NT that sold at a dealer dispersal sale in central Iowa in December 2017. It brought a final bid of $61,500.
Compare that with the average dealer asking price of $115,100 for 2015 models shown below. True, those 2015s are selling on dealer lots. Dealer asking prices are often 20% to 25% greater than auction values. But that doesn't account for the 53% difference in value.
