As spring waterfowl migration increases exposure to avian influenza, a webinar from AgriSafe Network will explain how an outbreak happens and what to do if an infection is suspected.

Spring migration is underway, with ducks and other waterfowl making their way back to the Midwest. With their increased numbers comes a heightened risk of transmission of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) to commercial and backyard poultry flocks.

The AgriSafe Network is hosting a webinar March 23 at Noon CDT entitled, "A Bird's Eye View of Avian Influenza."

The webinar presenter, Dr. Yuko Sato, DVM, MS, Dial. ACPV, is Iowa State University's poultry Extension veterinarian and diagnostic pathologist. Her Extension programs and research focus on the diagnosis, prevention, and investigation of poultry infectious diseases.

Sato will cover the basics of avian influenza and discuss the HPAI outbreak of 2022. She will also explain how outbreak control works and what to do if a poultry producer suspects a bird may be ill with HPAI.

The webinar is free for poultry producers, veterinarians, health care providers, and anyone else who may be interested, but online registration is required.
