New Holland has refreshed the T9 with PLM Intelligence series of tractors with the new SmartTrax system, a boost in horsepower, a new cab, and improved efficiency.

“With increased horsepower levels and an array of advanced features, the updated T9 lineup delivers better performance, from the cab to the field, to meet the evolving needs of our customers,” says Ken Paul, product marketing manager, high horsepower tractors at New Holland. “With customer well-being in mind, we’ve modernized the overall comfort and design of the cab to reduce stress and help operators focus on the acres ahead.”

The option to use a wheel unit or tracks allows for greater flexibility based on an individual operator's needs. The T9 SmartTrax with PLM Intelligence track system will be available on five 2025 model year T9 tractors - T9.520, T9.580, T9.615, T9.655, and T9.700.

The inclusion of advanced oscillating roller wheels and vibration dampening mount suspension contributes to a more comfortable ride and prevents uneven wear during road transportation, up to 25 mph. Due to the design of the SmartTrax, fuel capacity will increase 47% to 455 gallons. Maintenance is simplified with an automatic track tensioning system and clear track system hubcaps, allowing easy visibility to critical components.

Another feature is swinging cab entry steps that automatically pivot as the tractor articulates. This keeps the ladder from extending beyond the tracks and allows for easier entry and exit from the cab. An enhanced warranty system includes up to five years of coverage on select belts.

Karen Jones

"Productivity is central to the T9 SmartTrax," Paul says. "With this system, we're putting in place unmatched track performance that's cutting down on non-productive tractor time, like field-to-field movement and breaks to refuel, to maximize operator efficiency in the field, and minimize time spent on the job."

SmartTrax will be available in both 30- and 36-inch widths and orders will open in summer 2024 for 2025 production.

High power

The T9 series tractors are receiving a boost in power and fuel efficiency with an upgraded FPT 13L cursor engine. The three smaller models — the T9.470, T9.520, and T9.580 — have been changed to an electronic variable geometry turbo for their upgraded performance, coming in at 467, 522, and 578 peak horsepower, respectively. Tractors in this range have an improved fuel economy by 2%, according to New Holland.

The larger, double-wide models — the T9.615, T9.655, and T9.700 — sport two-stage turbocharging, bringing their performance up to 614, 656, and 699 peak horsepower, respectively. Gross vehicle weight has been increased across the entire line to increase load-carrying capacity.

New Holland has redesigned the interior of the T9 series with features like a new headliner, overhead console, and RAM mount rails. The tractors now have LED beacons for operating in low-light visibility. The tractor also now has a thinner exhaust, and has removed the J-tube between the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst and the Selective Catalyst Reduction.

The T9 comes equipped with a Intelliveiw 12 monitor, with the option to add a second display at purchase or install at a later date. The cab has a new audio system, with eight channel amplifiers, two tweeters, a premium sound-specific cab post cover, and attachments for device mounting.
