Think Roomba — but for your yard. Relying on your teenager is a thing of the past.

Yarbo, a company developing multi-purpose, autonomous yard cleaning robots, has announced the launch of the Yarbo Snow Blower S1.

Yarbo started development of the autonomous snow blower in 2017 and went through five years of development ahead of the launch of the beta version in 2022. Following the beta, Yarbo raised $3.45 million on Kickstarter to fund the final version of the product.

The Yarbo is an autonomous, modular robotic system, capable of both snow blowing and lawn care by switching between different attachments. The robot drives on rubber tracks to take on most outdoor conditions.

The Yarbo has an automatic driving system powered by RTK-GPS navigation, down to centimeter-level accuracy. Operators can create a cleaning plan in the Yarbo app, with multiple-zone management, to map out the robot’s cleaning area, and the app will help determine the most efficient route. A millimeter-wave radar, front real-time camera, and side cameras provide object detection to stop the robot from running into nearby pedestrians or obstacles.

If owners want a more hands-on experience, the Yarbo can be controlled by wireless remote control.

The Yarbo takes about three hours to fully recharge, and will automatically return to the docking station when running low on battery. The robot is powered by a low-temperature resistant lithium-ion battery, capable of running in temperatures as low as -20° Fahrenheit.

Snow blowing

The Yarbo will first ship with the S1 snow blower attachment in January 2024. The snow blower has a 21-inch cleaning width and maximum snow intake height at 12 inches, and can climb inclines at up to a 36° angle. With the S1 attachment, the Yarbo can cover up to 6,000 square feet — or about an hour and a half — on a single charge.

The S1 is a two-stage snow blower with both auger and fan, making it able to take on dry, wet, or packed snow on paved surfaces. Owners are able to direct the snow output where they want to within a range of 6 to 40 feet from the robot in a 180° horizontal rotation, and 45° vertical angle.

Lawn care

The M1 module for lawn care will ship after the S1 in summer 2024. The lawn attachment’s mowing deck has three blades, with an adjustable grass cutting height from 1.2 to 4 inches. The M1 has a cutting width of 20 inches, and can climb slopes at up to 68° angles.

The Yarbo and M1 attachment can cover over 3 acres in a day, cutting for about three hours — .9 acres — on a single charge. A rain and humidity sensor on the robot can sense changes in weather and automatically adjust its operation.

Additional attachments

The Yarbo is launching with the S1, followed soon after by the M1 module, but the company has plans for more attachments in the future. The B1 leaf blower system is scheduled to launch next, with a sweeper, plow, yard vacuum, arm module for orchard and garden operations, and sprinkler for irrigation and spraying pesticide in development.

A “super dock” will enable the Yarbo to automatically switch between the different modules as they become available.

Price and availability

The Yarbo is available for pre-order now for $7,499, and is estimated to ship with the S1 module January 2024. For the Yarbo’s launch, it will also include the M1 module in the base price, which will later sell for $1,599. The M1 module is estimated to launch in summer 2024.
