John Deere announced it will offer three new models of Hagie self-propelled sprayers for model year 2022. The Hagie STS12, STS16, and STS20 are powered by John Deere PowerTech 9 L engines, enabling spraying speeds up to 25 mph and road speeds up to 35 mph.

Spray Booms

"Everything about these sprayers is new, except for the field-proven signature front spray boom," says Joel Basinger, marketing manager for John Deere.

Because the front boom is at the front of the machine, operators watch application while sitting comfortably facing forward, reducing fatigue.

Booms are available in working widths of 90, 100, 120, and 132 feet. Active Wing Roll by Norac controls boom height when spraying across uneven terrain.

Tanks

The solution tank is at the center of the machine for weight balance, no matter if the tank is empty or full.

The 300-hp. Hagie STS12 has a 1,200-gallon tank. The 400-hp. Hagie STS16 has a tank capacity of 1,600 gallons. The largest sprayer, the 400-hp. Hagie STS20 has a 2,000-gallon tank.

The three new models are designed to get better economy than previous models. Dual turbos were added to the engine of the STS20 to make it the most powerful self-propelled sprayer on the market. Deere says, even with the largest tank, farmers will notice less rutting in the field and will be able to enter the field in damp conditions to spray.

Technology

All three models are standard equipped with a JDLink connection, an integrated StarFire 6000 GPS receiver, Generation 4 CommandCenter display, and AutoTrac guidance.

AutoTrac RowSense and AutoTrac Vision keep the sprayer in the row to minimize crop injury and ensure precise application. All Hagie sprayers also feature all-wheel steer to keep the sprayer's tires in the same set of tracks, even when making 90° turns. This further reduces crop damage.

CommandDrive is another standard technology on these machines. If a wheel slips, this system automatically sends more power to the other wheels for real-time traction control, and better performance across challenging terrain. The operator can easily dial in the desired speed range with the scroll wheel on the multifunction hydro handle.

PowrSpray technology enables fast, up to 300-gallon-per-minute fills. It also includes prime and onboard mixing features so farmers can get back in the field more quickly. With ExactApply technology, operators can control droplet size, spray pressure, and individual nozzle control.

Pressure recirculation and optional System Air Purge technology can improve job quality and simplify cleanout while reducing wasted product.

Machine features

To further reduce crop disturbance, all three models have up to 76 inches of underframe clearance.

The suspension system of these sprayers is different compared with previous models. It's been relocated to within each wheel. Moving the suspension also created cleaner sight lines for the operator.

Consistent with other new Deere machines, the STS sprayers feature a spacious and comfortable cab. Farmers can choose between the Select or Ultimate package. The Ultimate package includes a 6.5-inch touchscreen radio that can be connected to a smartphone or SirusXM. It also includes a small refrigerator and electric-cinch door with remote opening.

All the STS sprayers are equipped with a Category IV filtration system in the cab to the area clean.

"Hagie design and John Deere technology put farmers in control of season-long applications like never before," Basinger says. "With the boom placed at the front of the machine, expanded precision-ag technologies, enhanced operator comfort, and power to spare, these are the most innovative high-clearance sprayers in the industry."

Availability

Hagie STS sprayers will be available for ordering in June 2021. These machines are built in Clarion, Iowa.
