New machinery on the farm: What's debuted in 2024 so far

The first quarter of 2024 isn’t even complete, and dozens of new machinery innovations for farmers have already been introduced this year.

The first quarter of 2024 isn’t even complete, and dozens of new machinery innovations for farmers have already been introduced this year. In case you missed the flurry of introductions at National Farm Machinery Show, Commodity Classic, and World Ag Expo this winter, here’s a closer look at the latest planting, harvesting, and other equipment for farmers.

Planting

The Great Plains BD7410 box drill in transit

Great Plains

The new BD7410 box drill from Great Plains was introduced in February at the 2024 National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Kentucky. This new seeder features a narrow transport width and includes the same box, seed meters, and ground drive transmissions as the older BD7600 line. Orders are open now for fall 2024 delivery. Great Plains' new 60-foot PL5905 planter in the field

Great Plains

Great Plains also unveiled their new 60-foot bulk fill PL5906 planter while exhibiting in Louisville. It is the company’s largest planter yet. The planter can be ordered now and delivery is expected in time for the spring 2025 planting season. Read more about the introduction of the PL5906 planter here.

Kinze

Kinze started 2024 with the introduction of a new pivot fold, split row planter model. The new 5670 model is packed with new components from the hitch pin to closing wheels. The 5670 can be used as a dedicated narrow-row planter or a multi-crop planting workhorse, the company explains. Orders for this planter are expected to open in early April 2024 with delivery in time for planting 2025. Read more about Kinze's new 5670 planter here.

Precision Planting CornerStone planter

Precision Planting

At their own 2024 Winter Conference Precision Planting debuted a fully customizable, factory-built planting system they’ve named CornerStone. The CornerStone Planting System comes with everything but the planter bar. Farmers can order exactly which Precision Planting technologies they want and receive a factory-built system with all components already installed. The system is designed to be adaptable as future technologies come onto the market.

Beta testing of CornerStone Planting System will continue through Spring 2024 on 20 to 30 planters. Precision Planting anticipates commercial availability in the spring of 2025. Read more about Cornerstone in this article.

Tractors

The John Deere 9RX tractor

John Deere introduced their largest tractor yet with the announcement of the new 9RX at the 2024 Commodity Classic in Houston, Texas. The high horsepower, four-track tractor has been redesigned to help farmers eliminate passes in the field, reduce soil compaction, and increase productivity by 100 acres per day, says Michael Porter, market manager for John Deere.

The Model Year 2025 John Deere 9RX series will be available to order in late March. Machines will be hitting dealer lots at the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025. Read more about the 9RX here.

New Holland SmartTrax 2024

New Holland

New Holland announced the latest T9 with PLM Intelligence series of tractors have been refreshed with their new SmartTrax system, a boost in horsepower, a new cab, and improved efficiency. The option to use a wheel unit or tracks allows for greater flexibility based on an individual operator's needs, the company says.

“The T9 SmartTrax will be available for model year 2025 with order placements beginning summer 2024 at local New Holland dealerships,” says a company spokesperson. Deliveries will begin in Q4 2024. Read more about the improved T9 tractor here.

Case IH track system

Case IH

Farmers who purchase a model year 2025 Steiger Quadtrac tractor will have a new heavy-duty suspension to consider. “It’s an active suspension system, something we haven’t had in our tractor lineup,” says Morgen Dietrich, Case IH tractor segment lead.

This optional feature is designed to improve ride for the operator, extend track life, and minimize soil compaction by increasing flotation. Ordering begins June 2024 with delivery expected in early 2025. Read more about the Case IH suspension option here.

Electric tractors

In addition to traditional row crop tractor innovation, farmers saw new electric models on display at recent industry events this winter.

Kubota showed off their autonomous New Agri Concept tractor during the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The cutting-edge machine combines autonomy, electric power, artificial intelligence, and data, says Brett McMickell, senior technologist for the company. Bobcat

Also exhibiting at CES, Bobcat unveiled their battery-powered AT450X articulating tractor. The machine is equipped with Agtonomy’s software and embedded-computing technology. It is designed to autonomously or remotely carry out farm tasks in compact spaces, like vineyards and orchards, such as mowing, spraying, precision weeding, plus product and material transport.

Compact tractors

Mahindra's 2100 compact tractor models on a trade show floor

The compact tractor market continues to expand with Mahindra’s newest sub-compact and compact offerings targeting first-time buyers.

The company will offer two chassis sizes — the 1100 models in 20 to 26 hp, and 2100 in 23 to 26 hp — with comfort amenities like telematics, leather seats, and USB charging ports included in the base models, says Viren Popli, president and CEO for Mahindra Ag North America.

Both models are expected to arrive at dealers lots in time for the spring growing season. Read more about Mahindra's new 1100 and 2100 tractors here.

Hay/Forage

While exhibiting at the 2024 World Ag Expo in California, New Holland introduced a new pickup head for their self-propelled forage harvesters.

“Our engineering team strategically developed the UltraFeed head to increase our FR Forage Cruiser’s productivity across diverse crop types,” says Josh Harkenrider, commercial hay and forage marketing manager for New Holland. “The ability to modulate and equalize crop flow satisfies the FR’s appetite for production.”

DewEze bale bed at 2024 National Farm Machinery Show

DewEze has been known for their parallel squeeze bale beds for much of their 40 year history. However, their updated bale bed highlighted at the 2024 National Farm Machinery Show has a pivot design. The latest bed features an access panel to more easily service the hydraulic system and a new pin design for easier greasing, the company said. A number of optional features are also available.

A Case baler with LiDAR technology

Case IH

Attendees at the 2024 NCBA Cattle Congress in Orlando, Florida, were the first to see Case IH’s new large square baler automation technology designed to offer hands-free operation and consistent bales regardless of operator experience.

Case IH baler automation is the industry’s first LiDAR (light detection and ranging) baling system, opening opportunities for hay producers in efficiency and productivity, the company says.

Massey Ferguson

Massey Ferguson has introduced SimplEbale, an aftermarket monitoring and control system that can be retrofitted to the 1800 Series small square balers. The kit is designed to improve bale consistency.

The kits are currently compatible with the Massey Ferguson 1840 two-tie and 1844S three-tie small square balers, and are available to order now through Massey Ferguson dealers. Read more about SimplEbale here.

A John Deere W260M windrower in the field

John Deere

John Deere expanded its windrower offering with the new W260M, designed with higher horsepower for gutting through dense crop.

The W260M is launching with Deere’s new mounted-merger option, enabling the windrower to combine up to 48 feet in a single windrow. This option will also be available on the W235M, W235R and W260R.

The new model will be available at John Deere dealerships beginning fall 2024. Read more about the W260M here.

Spraying

AgZen introduced their RealCoverage technology that combines a camera system with artificial intelligence to provide real-time information, a process called feedback-enabled spraying.

“Everyone is facing the same challenge, which is getting water-based spray to get to and stay on what tends to be water-repellant plant surfaces,” says Vishnu Jayaprakash, CEO and co-founder of AgZen.

AgZen units have been installed across the United States and in Europe and are available for the 2024 season. Farmers can pay per sprayed acre or purchase a unit outright. Read more about the RealCoverage system here.

The new Hagie STS sprayers were unveiled at the 2024 Commodity Classic. The machines are built as part of a joint venture with John Deere, bringing over a lineup of technology you’d find on modern Deere equipment.

Exclusive to the Hagie STS16 with 120-foot boom, the new sprayer can be purchased with John Deere’s See and Spray Premium technology factory-installed.  Read more about the new Hagie STS sprayers here.

Harvesting

John Deere model year 2025 S7 combine

John Deere

John Deere is launching a new S Series of combines with the S7, focusing on increased efficiency and an enhanced operator experience, as well as setting the groundwork for future autonomy systems. The new harvester was on display in Huston, Texas at the 2024 Commodity Classic.

The Model Year 2025 John Deere S7 series combines will be available to order in late March in four configurations. Delivery will be in 2025. Read more about the new John Deere S7 combine here.

Case combine head

Case IH

The C516 corn head recently introduced by Case IH features the industry’s largest cross auger at 23.6 feet.

The C516 is approximately 1,000 pounds lighter than the previous model, reducing overall harvesting machine weight to reduce soil compaction and improve flotation in the field. Updated hood and divider designs allow for smoother and cleaner crop flow, especially in downed corn conditions, the company says.

Case AF11 combine

Farmers flocked to the CaseIH exhibit at the 2024 National Farm Machinery show to see the new AF11 combine. The new 775 hp harvester features the company’s first-ever dual rotor, an active and dynamic cleaning system, plus a 567-bushel grain tank.

Limited production is planned for 2024 with full production in time for harvest 2025. Read more about the Case IH AF11 combine here.

AGCO

AGCO has announced the Ideal Air Blaster aftermarket upgrade kit for cleaning feeder heads on Fendt combines. Operators have two options to deploy air cleaning: The air blaster can be operated manually through the press of a button in the cab. It can also be set to automatically blast air every minute and a half.

The Ideal Air Blaster will be available for purchase before harvest 2024. The technology will be exclusive to the Fendt Ideal series combines, but may come to other AGCO brands at a later date. Read more about the Ideal Air Blaster here.

ATV/UTV

The Kubota RTV-X1130

Kubota launched their new RTV-X1130 diesel-powered utility vehicle (UTV) with a convertible cargo bed, and expanded hauling capabilities at the 2024 National Farm Machinery Show. This is the company’s first UTV with a long bed configuration and can be ordered now through Kubota dealers. Read more about the RTV-X1130 from Kubota here.

2024 Kawasaki Brute Force 750 ATV

Kawasaki introduced their 2024 Brute Force 750 ATVs this January with new styling, instrumentation, cargo racks for select models, and LED lighting. The Brute Force 750 ATVs run on a liquid-cooled, 749cc, V-twin four-stroke engine. Standard and 750 EPS models can be ordered now through Kawasaki dealers. Kawasaki also kicked off 2024 with a new Ridge side-by-side. These UTVS are inspired by automotive vehicles for a smooth, comfortable ride, without sacrificing power, says the company. It runs on a 999cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke in-line four-cylinder engine, with an output of 92 hp and 65.6 foot-pounds of torque. Read more about the 2024 Ridge models here.

Honda 1000X-4

Honda

Honda started the year with the introduction of new two- and four-seater Talon side-by-sides.

The Honda Talon side-by-sides are designed for off-road enthusiasts navigating all sorts of challenging terrain. The Talon 1000R models are designed for open terrain like desert trails, and 1000X models are tailored for driving on tight, wooded terrain.

Ag tech

In January AGCO announced FarmerCore, a new end-to-end distribution model integrating physical and digital elements across the purchasing process and ownership lifecycle for AGCO machinery. FarmerCore has been launched to put dealers in closer proximity to farmers onsite and online, the company explains.

FarmerCore will launch this year in select North America and South America dealer organizations, with continued expansion throughout the year. Read more about the new AGCO program here.

The Libra Cart hardware and mobile app interface

This year, farmers using Case IH’s AFS Connect or New Holland’s MyPLM Connect will have integrated access to the Agrimatics Libra Cart system and cloud services.

Farmers can use Libra Cart to help simplify harvest data collection, track and monitor inventory, calibrate the combine’s yield monitor, and backup and manage data in the cloud. To learn more about Libra Cart check out this article.

John Deere satellite communications

Deere & Co. announced their agreement with SpaceX to provide cutting-edge satellite communications (SATCOM) service to farmers in January 2024. Using the SpaceXg Starlink network, this will allow farmers facing rural connectivity challenges to fully leverage precision agriculture technologies.

The SATCOM solution will initially be available through a limited release in the United States and Brazil starting in the second half of 2024.​​ Read more about the partnership here.

John Deere 326 P-tier telescopic compact wheel loader

John Deere

At the end of January, John Deere introduced the new 326 P-Tier telescopic compact wheel loader, designed for stacking, loading, pallet transport, and snow removal.

“Ranchers and dairy producers will love the 326 P-Tier for its reach, its flexibility and its lift capacity,” says Luke Gribble, go-to-market manager for John Deere. Read more about the 326 P-tier telescopic compact wheel loader here.

Kioti TL750 compact track loader with grapple attachment

Kioti announced the launch of the TL750 compact track loader and the SL750 skid steer loader in February.

Mattracks

Mattracks has announced availability of the narrowest tracks in the industry — starting at only 9.6 inches and ranging up to 12 inches wide. Specifically designed for row crops, the newly released narrow tracks can reduce compaction by up to 40% compared with tires, according to the company.
