Photo: Illustration by Lant Elrod If you have used a three-point snowblower, you know that a sore neck, poor visibility, questionable safety, and stress can all accompany the backward process of snow removal. John Allen of Craig, Colorado, decided he had enough of that frustration. He created a mount on the front of the tractor’s loader to attach the snowblower. He used a 540 speed, 40+ hp hydraulic motor directly mounted to the snowblower. On the back of the tractor, he created a three-point saddle that holds a 50-gallon oil tank that supplies the system using a 1,000 rpm pump delivering 40 gpm at 2,200 psi. To prevent overheating, he used 1-inch lines and mounted an oil cooler in front of the radiator, which connects to the return line coming off the drive motor. “I don’t have to bend over and kneel on the seat while trying to do the snowblowing backwards,” says Allen. “I actually enjoy the process now.” John Allen Now 80 years old, John Allen leases out his pasture ground, but still maintains the irrigation systems. John is married to Mary Lou. The couple has two sons and two grandchildren. He and his wife travel, and he loves to play guitar and sing while his friend Wayne plays fiddle. At an event, someone put the two individuals’ names together and called them the John Wayne Band. It stuck. Contact John at audioranch2@gmail.com Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback!
