John Deere Announces New Chisel Plow and Nutrient Applicator

John Deere announced the release of a new chisel plow and nutrient applicator to replace the current 2410 models.

John Deere announced the release of a new chisel plow and nutrient applicator to replace the current 2410 models. Three big improvements make the new 2430 chisel plow and the 2430C nutrient applicator higher performing. TruSet technology, radial tires, and a new rear hitch set these new tools apart.

The 2430 chisel plow is designed to break up and level soil, even over rocky or wet land. It can handle tough soils and heavy crop residue.

TruSet

"The new 2430 Chisel Plow builds on many important features of the 2410 Chisel Plow," says Jarred Karnei, product marketing manager for John Deere tillage equipment. "This includes the addition of John Deere's exclusive TruSet depth and down-pressure control system on base equipment and a wide choice of ground-engaging points, spacings, and attachments that allow customers to configure the implement to best fit their field-specific soil and residue conditions."

With TruSet technology, farmers can adjust shank depth in increments of .10-inch on-the-go from the comfort of the tractor cab on both the 2430 chisel plow and 2430C nutrient applicator. This comes as standard equipment.

TruSet gives farmers up to 900 psi down-pressure control of the rear rolling baskets on the 2340 chisel plow. While in the field, operators can switch between their four preprogramed custom settings, or make setting adjustments as needed. Up to four presets are stored in the display for common field conditions.

The TruSet system also has two more precision tillage functions. Farmers can record their settings as they pass through the field. This gives them more data to work with as they plan for the future. The technology, coupled with other John Deere precision ag technologies has prescription functionality, allowing farmers to manage headlands and varying soil types most appropriately.

Radial Tires

New radial tires on these tools improve flotation and transportation. These durable tires come standard for the center-frame and may be added as an option for the wings.

Thanks to the wider footprint and lower inflation pressure of the radial tires, yield-robbing compaction is minimized.

"Radial tires also give you better stubble resistance and wear as well. As you're going over that stubble, you have a lot of that hitting those tires. These tires don't break down, or have pieces come out of them like they would with a biased tire. So there's just better longevity of your tires from that standpoint," says Karnei.

Raidal tires have advantages when it comes time to move from field to field as well. "When you look at producers today as their farms continue to grow, they continue to expand their operations and a lot of them have to travel long distances on highways transporting from one field to the next," Karnei explains. "Radial tires get better reliability during transport to be able to carry those heavier loads longer distances."

Finishing Components

The 2430 offers two different options for rear attached finishing components.

A knife-edge rolling basket is the first. This part of the tool is made of hardened steel and is designed to handle rocks and adverse conditions. Equipped with internal basket scrapers, it is built to resist plugging in wet soils. This means farmers can get a more uniform field finish since baskets will not need to be raised out of the ground.

Operators select between three positions for the hydraulic rolling baskets. The first option, raised, is best for harsh muddy conditions. The float position can be used to lightly fluff the soil. The third position, applying down pressure, can be adjusted so the basket is making consistent contact with the soil, leaving behind a firm seedbed and shattering root balls.

The other choice of rear attached finishing components is the 240 coil-tine chisel plow harrow. This tool has been specifically designed for the new 2430 chisel plows. This may be an attractive attachment for a farmer who prioritizes soil profile finish and residue-handling capability.

Rear Hitch

Both the 2430 and the 2430C are equipped with a new rear hitch. The hitch is designed to allow farmers to tow additional attachments, including anhydrous ammonia tanks and adjusts side-to-side for easier hookups.

Sizes and Specifications

"Like the 2140 Chisel Plows, the new 2430 models are built using high-strength steel tubing that provides the superior structural integrity customers have come to expect from John Deere chisel plows," Karnei says. "These tillage tools are built to provide years of excellent residue incorporation and soil mixing essential to start the nutrient cycling for next year's crop."

The 2430 chisel plow comes in several sizes and configurations to meet the needs of a variety of customers. Rigid frame models are available in working widths from 11.67 to 17.33 ft. Drawn rigid fold models with working widths from 17.5 to 20.5 ft. are available. There are also 3-section drawn flex C-shank models with working widths from 21.83 to 43 ft. The largest working width is a 5-section drawn flex C-shank model ranging from 44 to 63 ft.

The 2430C nutrient applicators have 5-sections and come in five sizes. The largest applicator available is 62.5 ft. wide. Product marketing manager Doug Felter says the individual sections of the 2430C can be independently adjusted for more accurate fertilizer placement and proper sealing.

"From front to rear, the 2430C Nutrient Applicators are designed to operate at higher speeds, cover mover acres and more precisely and effectively deliver and seal fertilizer for the crop to use," Felter says.

Sweeps, chisels and twisted shovels are available for this tool. Farmers can make the selection that is best suited for their farm's conditions.

Availability

Orders for the new 2430 chisel plow or 2430C nutrient applicator can be placed through your local John Deere dealer after August 1, 2018. Pricing information will also be released at that time. The first round of delivery is expected November 2018 to March 2019.
