Successful Farming's Editorial Guidelines Published on November 18, 2020 Close For more than 37 years, Schuil & Associates has built its business the old fashioned way. . . one relationship at a time. Located in the Central Valley of California, the ag real estate specialists recently released a mobile app to expand their reach. "We want to market our services as best we can," says Rick Schuil, a principal partner in the company and current chairman of the board. "We used to be a six office firm, but the old brick-and-mortar is being replaced by the web. We feel we get a more intense reach with the app, which is driving both buyers and sellers to our website, than having multiple brick-and-mortar locations." Generating $160 million to $200 million a year, the company's 15 agents not only broker dairies, but they also handle small rural properties to large investment-grade properties. "I was around when the fax machine was introduced. We wanted to be one of the first to have one, so we could get information out to clients as fast as possible," he says. "With the advent of more technology, we want to ensure we're on the front end of technology with all of our clients, so we can be the best service provider in agricultural real estate. Having our app helps us achieve that." Beyond California, the agricultural marketing company has a presence in Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Oregon, South Dakota, and Washington. Prefer to rent rather than sell? Schuil says their team can help you with that as well. "If someone comes to us and says he has a section of land in Iowa, for example, that he thinks would be great for one of our dairy clients, we would definitely work with that person as well," he says.
