Corn crop condition declines for 3rd consecutive week

The USDA released its 13th Crop Progress report of the 2024 growing season on June 24. Here’s a look at the most recent corn, soy, wheat, and oat numbers.

Today the USDA released the 13th Crop Progress report of the growing season.

Corn crop progress

The USDA says as of June 23, 97% of the 2024 corn crop in the top 18 corn-growing states has emerged. This is up from 93% the week prior and slightly ahead of the five-year average of 96%.

Four percent of corn is silking across nine of the top 18 growing states. This is slightly ahead of the five-year average of 3%.

According to the report, the condition of the corn crop in the top growing states rates as follows:

Soybean crop progress

The USDA says soybean planting progress in the top 18 growing states is at 97%, up from 93% the week prior and ahead of the five-year average of 95%.

Ninety percent of the crop in those states is out of the ground. That’s up from 82% the week prior and ahead of the five-year average of 87%.

Eight percent of soybeans are blooming across 17 of the top 18 growing states. This is ahead of the five-year average of 6%.

Oat crop progress

The USDA says 61% of oats are headed in the top nine producing states. This is up from 50% the week prior and ahead of the five-year average of 58%.

Winter wheat progress

The USDA says 97% of winter wheat has headed across all of the top 18 growing states. This is up from 94% the week prior and ahead of the five-year average of 95%.

The report says harvest has begun in 12 of those states and is 40% complete. That is up from 27% the week prior and is ahead of the five-year average of 25%.

Spring wheat progress

The USDA says 18% of spring wheat has headed across the top six growing states. This is up from 4% the week prior and in line with the five-year average.
