Trimble Agriculture has announced a new connected data user license to more easily manage field data. Additionally, new automatic stream switching is now available for farmers using Trimble NAV receivers to help minimize downtime while using navigation correction services.

Data management license update

The new update to the user license enables more seamless web and mobile connectivity while using the Trimble in-cab display for efficient management of precision ag data. Farmers can use this data within Trimble’s own software, or integrate it into third-party companies’ software.

“The Trimble Ag Software–Data license is the first in its category that is not specific to a single equipment manufacturer or brand, allowing farmers to optimize production across a mixed fleet,” says Dave Britton, vice president of product management for Trimble Agriculture. “With this new software, we’re laying the foundation to enable future value from connected devices, helping farmers better run their operations.”

The Trimble Ag Software–Data license is designed to address common operational challenges by connecting data, environments, workflows, and users across the farm, regardless of machinery brand. It will facilitate the collection, standardization, visualization, and use of data from Trimble and third-party sources.

Farmers will be able to prepare necessary field data and job instructions — including boundaries, guidance lines, landmarks, and materials — and get real-time access to job status and task records as work is completed. Records are centralized in the user’s Trimble Agriculture Cloud account, and from there are available for reporting, record keeping, agronomic analysis or collaborating with business partners.

Expanded API

In addition to the accessibility updates, Trimble’s Ag Software–Data opens up access to Trimble’s API. This creates an open environment for coupling in-field devices for compatibility with both Trimble and third-party agriculture applications.

Correctional services

Trimble has also announced satellite and cellular stream switching for farmers using its NAV-900 or NAV-500 receivers and CenterPoint RTX, RangePoint RTX, or ViewPoint RTX services. This update is designed to reduce GNSS corrections downtime by automatically switching the receiver’s connection to the optimal data source.

In areas of the field where a farmer may be cut off from satellite connection, the signal will switch to and stay on cellular, and vice versa.

“By enabling stream switching, farmers will have more uptime, potentially eliminating downtime due to loss of signal,” says Olivier Casabianca, vice president of Trimble positioning services. “At Trimble, we’re continually innovating to address challenges we hear from our customers. This is a result of direct feedback we’ve received from farmers and a solution we’ve developed to address those connection issues and eliminate downtime.”

This is available now to farmers who have an active modem and a current Trimble RTX subscription after updating their NAV-900 or NAV-500 receiver to the latest firmware. Users can then switch the receiver’s signal source to automatic to take advantage of the update.
