Successful Farming's Editorial Guidelines Published on February 13, 2019 Close A unique engineering approach to closing depth gauge wheels on planters promises self-cleaning capability that makes wet soil less of a challenge. PolyTech revealed its new Coil Wheel System created by RFM Ag today at the National Farm Machinery Show. The unique spring coil wheels are used in place of traditional rubber wheels for depth gauge wheels as well as the rubber or steel designs employed on closing wheels. In addition to its self-cleaning ability, the innovation offers outstanding down pressure and sifts the soil back over the seed for an ideal cover, points out Pat Reinhart of Poly Tech. The company claims its Coil Wheel System offers better seed placement, enhances seed germination, and eliminates soil cracking above the seed while eliminating the need for chains.
